A Taco Dinner Party, Birthday Celebration and a Day of the Dead Festival

Last weekend the girls and I drove to Fort Lauderdale to spend some time with friends.

We had dinner at La Mexicana Taco Bar and it was the perfect setting for a fun Mexican-themed dinner party. We were celebrating a few birthdays and all had a lot of catching up to do. The girls had their first-ever Mexican Coca Cola (which they loved) and played games in the restaurant’s yard.

Upon entering the restaurant…

To start, the Three Amigos; queso fundido, esquites and of course, guacamole!

After dinner was over, we headed to the Fort Lauderdale Day of the Dead Festival. Attending a Dia de los Muertos event has been on my bucket list for awhile now and it did not disappoint. I think we may have missed the parade but I’d love to check it out next year, if possible.

I gasped when I came across this Frida Kahlo ofrenda. It was so beautiful. You can read about why I am so obsessed with Frida in this old HuffPost article I wrote.

Frida Forever

Our night ended with some live mariachi, which I had been telling my friends that we needed to hear before ending the night. I’m convinced mariachi is one of the top things that brings all Latinos together. It lifts everyone’s mood, brings on nostalgia and is so beautiful.
